Let's reduce our environmental footprint from coast to coast!

Strong Collaborations for Waste Reduction
and Management

The movement "Reduce Your Environmental Footprint from Coast to Coast" emerges to highlight environmental footprint reduction initiatives in Puerto Rico. El Estuario de la Bahía de San Juan, Limpiar, and Alelí Environmental joined forces to reduce and prevent waste at three locations within the Island. We are united to encourage and support other organizations to join the movement (and add themselves to our map), to increase engagement with our communities and multiply our impact and protection for our Planet Earth.

'Que no toque el piso ni llegue al agua'

The community campaign "Keep it off the ground and out of the water" is an initiative aimed at conserving water through the proper management of solid waste and diverting it from storm drains.

This effort to improve solid waste management arises from the interest, concern, and action of the Machuchal community along Loíza Street and neighboring areas.

'Deja una huella limpia en Piñones'

The campaign "Leave a Clean Footprint in Piñones" is a call to action to care for the coastal ecosystems of Piñones through the reduction of solid waste and responsible disposal. This initiative is part of the Solid Waste Reduction for a Clean and Sustainable Piñones project, which has integrated residents and businesses of Piñones collaboratively with the organizations LimPiaR and the San Juan Bay Estuary Program.

'Comida Sin Huella'

Food Without a Footprint is an initiative that was created based on a study assessing the routes of marine debris in the Guánica Bay Watershed and adjacent areas within the southwestern Puerto Rico, in collaboration with Villanova University. Inspired by the positive actions of 'Leave a Clean Footprint in Piñones', this campaign seeks to replicate and expand upon practices to trigger positive behavior change in restaurants and consumers. The goal of Food Without a Footprint is to reduce the use of single-use plastics and redirect other waste through recycling, reuse and composting, thus promoting a circular economy.
